Kenya Safari 2011

Once again we have had the good fortune to travel to Kenya for another Safari with our friend David Karanja.
After our flight from London we spent our first night in Nairobi. The following day we set off to Sunbird Lodge overlooking Lake Elementaita in the Great Rift Valley. Set high on an escarpment the views over the lake were stunning.
From here we were able to take a full day's game drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. A relatively short trip south to the Sopa Lodge on Lake Naivasha brought us within a long morning's drive to the Masai Mara the following day.
We then had nine nights on the Mara. Three nights at each of Mara Serena, Governors' Camp and Mara Sarova.
Overall the weather was not the best we have had, rain in the morning and a lot of cloud around. David reckoned that this was most unusual for the time of year.

Sunbird Lodge
This was an excellent location for bird watching.
Lake Nakuru National Park
From Sunbird Lodge we took an all day game drive to Lake Nakuru National Park
Lake Naivasha
After 3 nights at Sunbird Lodge we moved a little south to Sopa Lodge on Lake Naivasha. This moved us closer for the long journey to the Masai Mara
Mara Serena - Masai Mara
Our first stop on the Mara - 3 nights at Mara Serena Lodge.
Governors' Camp - Masai Mara
Three nights at Governors Camp. First time to GC for us. An excellent experience although 3 game drives a day can be a bit tiring.
Mara Sarova - Masai Mara
We finished our safari with 3 nights at Mara Sarova.
